Whats a jockey..... (apart from a little man on a horse).7 to 9 speed you can use any shimano mech, they have the same cable pull ratio,
I haven't got a 5 or 6 but I would guess they are also the same.
So you can probably find any bracket fit shimano mech will fit.
If you want to know what mech that is Shimano put the numbers on them, on the
back of the parallelogram linkages usually.
That wheel looks pretty worn?
If your looking at secondhand look at the condition of the jockeys.
Ah ah i see.Replacement 11 or 13 tooth Jockey wheels are cheap enough. I've actual got these (matching colour) ones fitted to my Land Rover Visalia Rural hybrid, My Falcon Explorer Urban hybrid, and my Warrior touring trike.
I missed that last bit. LolThe jokeys are the pulleys on the mech.
Bottom is a tension and the top is a Guide wheel. The guide wheel has about half a mm of sideways movement.
If you look at pics of secondhand mechs you will see what
they end up looking like, I have no great problem with spikey tension pulleys
but when the guide pulley wears so the chain touches the plastic hub below the
teeth the shifting is crap.
I forgot to ask what's wrong with the mech, I don't think I have had an unfixable one.
I looked at the wheel and wondered how thick it is.
No i was not going to bother with a second hand mech at the price a new one is...7 to 9 speed you can use any shimano mech, they have the same cable pull ratio.
I haven't got a 5 or 6 but I would guess they are the same as 7-9, so you can probably
fit any mech you can fit. I said shimano as I think the other makes use different ratios and spacing.
Shimano put the numbers on everything, on mechs it's the back of the parallelogram
linkages usually. You can see it in the ebay one in the link above it's an RD-TY21.
