Exhaust pipe repair help

Hello all I have a ford fiesta 1.4tdi 2004. The middle section has few holes in it that are blowing . I have use the cheap bandage repair lasted for 1 year but really need section cutting out and replacing . How do I measure pipe so I can buy small coupler section off ebay with clamps so I can cut out and slide over pipe and clamp and replace ?

Wrap a bit of string round it to find the circumference, divide x pi (3.14) and you will have your diameter.

You`ll need to measure the OD --outside diam of the existing pipe accuratly, any sleeve will need to have a minimum ID-inside diam of the pipes OD, slip it over one end of the cut pipe, push it on, line up the 2 pipes and pull it back onto other pipe tighten the clamps, an option may be some silencer jointing compound, but with the sleeve, it should work without compound

just do it like everyone else. jubilee clips and an old beer can cut into a sleeve.

I would but its on the hanger bracket so will have to cut old hanger off and weld onto new replacement section..

Just use a silencer clamp and then make a bracket to fasten the rubber support to, saves all the welding.

We just did that with a universal back box on my daughter's Corsa, 50mm U clamp, a piece of flat with a bend on one end and drilled for a bolt the other end to go through the rubber. Not welding just for the sake of it

No, old style line gauge ones, the eye's don't tend to suffer battery/electronic failure at the most important time, or go tits up just like my 9 month old 8 inch Christmas prezzie pair have, now where's that old style set I had....

+1, assuming the OP can read a Vernier scale in today's digital age

I see your point but a shame to replace the hole middle section of exhaust as do not have car lift ramp etc . But have car jack and axle stands , the hole was picked up on mot yesterday as said it had rap round patch form hellfords and has started to blow again but the patch has lasted over a year.. I did look at joint at front of exhaust by engine bay and it looks well rusted up and hard to get too..

So for me this is the easiest option

I had the centre box leak on my Range Rover, cut a piece of galv sheet to make a patch, curved it by hand then covered it with paste (Gumgum/firegum?) and strapped it on with Jubilee banding. Lasted through 2 MOT's 'til I replaced it with an SS sports system.

A good easy fix and I would do the same but it has gone where the hanger is attached ...
