excel spreadsheet help needed

i have been lumbered with sorting the standby rota at work
been faffing with excel and reading tutorials, and not getting very far
what i would like to be able to do is to input a year, and a number of how many are in the rota
then display on a single sheet the year, with each full week of standby starting on a friday rotating in order, displayed by a different colour
can anyone assist ?

Excel used to be a big part of my job but I'm well out of touch.

These days I'd just look online for a template I could use with minimum work ... eg search

Things to consider (and test) when planning a rota :
What about bank holidays ? Easter is the only date with consecutive bank holidays - if your systems copes with that it should cope with Christmas...
Staff holidays ?
Months have different numbs of days. February? Leap years...

bank holidays are the same as a normal day for us... we are 24/7/365. holidays if you are rostered as standby its up to the individual to swap- well it will be now i am doing it

Today, we don't have the ability to organise a project to enable people to fly the the Moon, whereas we could do that ~50 years ago. Of course, we didn't have Microsoft then .

Can you draw an example? Shouldn’t be that difficult, do you know if you can run macro (.xlsm) files, some organisations block their use.

this is sort of what I want, but a lot of that was done manually ..

I would like to be able to set the number of people and let the macro run and sort in weeks blocks starting on a Friday as above
Macros not a problem, as won't be done on a work machine
