i have an old yanmar 2.5t excavator with a worn drive train, last year i built up and machined back the sprockets to give them a bit more life but i noticed that the drive pins on the tracks were starting to look a bit thin,
took another look last week and they have worn thru in some places exposing the inner pin that hold the links together.
I dont really fancy shelling out for a new pair of tracks so i have been thinking of cutting out the worn 'tubes' and welding in mild steel replacements.
The tracks look like cast steel? i have only ever welded straps between across the tracks when changing links on larger machines.
does anyone have any experience of succesfull track repairs?
regards.
