Hi Guys. Drilling some 12mm holes in 22mm mild steel pipe. Problems with ejecting the slug from the centre of the annular cutter, some times it does, more often doesn't, right pain.

Often the way,give the slug an upward tap with a copper hammer,or a twist with concave jaw pliers,doesn’t always work though.

Is the springy thing (?) the pin sits on moving freely?

Is it a pin to suit the cutter - they come in long and short series

that’s about it really. Sorry if that’s teaching you to suck eggs

as nick it often happens. I tend to have a pick handy to flick them out

Some of the problem is due to it being pipe, so it is not flat: the hole breaks through at different depths around the perimeter.

Could you change the annular cutter for a holesaw?

Thanks guys, All things working, spring I think could be stronger but as Argoshield says it's due to it being pipe. I have 400 plus holes to cut don't think the hole saw would be practical.
The holes are cut at each end of the pipe, the pipe is welded into a barrier, holes are for galvanising process. Time consuming and awkward using pillar drill which I have used previously. Tapping the cutter with a brass drift does sometimes dislodge the slug but will try the pick.
