When you've killed a meter does it stop providing the property with electric or does it just kill the "smart" bit of it ?
If it doesn't stop supplying electric to the property then you could rent it out as a service to all the people who don't want these new meters but are forced into having one fitted
it kills the smart bit, screen goes blank power stays on, after some months you get asked to check the meter or they send someone round to read it, some months after that they come round and change it.
The last workshop i had was a redundant scout hut. It had six 3kw electric fan heaters in the roof. Obviously designed to raise the temperature quickly for a short period & then get turned off.
I tried them out once & could hear the meter whining like the engines of the starship enterprise as she wound up to warp 9. We worked it out that to keep the temperature up to an average 21 degrees C in the winter was going to cost approx £50 a day. Needless to say i didnt use the heating after that.

When I bought my big inverter MIG I had 3 phase installed and put a 3 phase meter in the shed, after running the MIG through about 1/2 roll of 15kg wire, the meter barely showed any movement, I can't remember the exact amount as it was about 5 years ago now, but I think it was only 3 or 4 KW, which was very little, or about less than $1 worth of power or so and 7kg of welding wire is a fair amount of work, at the time I thought that the meter wasn't working properly. Then when I got the metal lathe which has a 4.6Kw motor on it, that was a different story, it clocked up 20Kw within a day or so! So nowadays I try to use the metal lathe on sunny days so that the solar panels can offset the running costs.
