euro torch

i need to replace the torch on my silverline mig after dropping a lump hammer on it. i have been unable to just find the part it needs (the trigger) and silverline were less than helpful when i rang them. they will opnly supply the part fitted and all in it is going to cost over a ton.

i've had a look on the bay, and all the torches seem to be "euro style" plug in ones, which my welder isn't. as i'm kinda skint at the moment i can't really afford to by a euro conversion kit and a torch. can i just just the plug off and wire up the individual connections inside the machine?

Probably better to get a Clarke/SIP replacement torch from weldequip. They would be similar.

Scott's right. Your Silverline torch probably has a gas valve at the trigger. The Euro torch won't since they expect the gas to be controlled by a solenoid valve in the welder. A Clarke or similar replacement hobby torch will have the gas valve you need.

However, even a SIP torch is £50-odd. A gas solenoid would set you back about £20 on top of the price of a Euro torch. You'd need to figure out how to wire it into your welder, though.

Can't you make/improvise a replacement trigger somehow - is it a really complicated shape or something?

correct. i had a go at making a replacement trigger, but i just couldbn't get it to work right. it either didn't open the gas valve or it jammed on . new clarke torch will be the way forwards then,. cheers guys
