eu regulator to uk bottle

Hello all

First of all, thanks for this great forum, I've been reading it in the last few weeks, and there is a lot of good info on hear, well done.

I moved from the Netherlands to the uk with all my welding gear, but no bottles. My gas regulator wasn't cheap, and works fine, but when I yesterday collected a bottle of gas, from one of the suppliers of "southwest gas supplies" I came to a sad conclusion, that my regulator won't fit. bit annoying because I need to start a job this Friday where I will use my welder a lot.

My regulator screws over thread on the bottle rather then in the bottle. Or however you say this. see picture.

so basicly I need a little adaptor.
I have seen this one but besides that i think that it is to expensive for what it is, also I cant be sure if its the right size.

Anybody who got some good tips for me?

Options I can think of:
Buy new regulator
Buy overpriced adaptor
Buy just the regulator connection part new?
Stick to Arc welding

Your fitting appears to be a standard Co2 type, the adapter in your link will convert it to fit the Argon/mixed gas bottles,It is a little pricey but cheaper than buying a complete new regulator.

I do wonder, if there's anybody who has a sort like adapter and could maybe measure the thread on the regulator side, diameter + pitch???

That's for adapting UK kit. Click the first link in my last post, it contains a list of the various different threads used by different countries. I linked directly the Netherlands (NEN 3268) standards, scroll up for UK (BS341) sizes

you know how frustrating it is, knowing you could fix something for a few pence, but not having the tools and end up spending a lot more.

i did also find this but again i dont know the thread size + pitch.

I will go to industrial estate, and have a look what i can find, i probably buy a regulator.

Everyone should own at least one lathe. I own two and have access to two more but making an adaptor to get a regulator to fit a cylinder it isn't designed to is something i'd never do. Yeah it's not rocket science but high pressure gases are not an area to cut corners with especially when a good quality reg can be delivered to your door for less than £40...

It would be a nice little job though, cutting some nice thread.
anyway, problem is solved, i did order a new regulator. Had email from weldequip that they dispatched, so i finally can use my welder again.
