etch primer or barcoat first?

Ok so iv finished sanding my car for the respray and in some areas have gone down to bare metal , would it be ok to put the barcoat over the bare metal or will etch primer have to be put down first , im still getting the hang of this , i did a search but couldnt get a clear answer ,so as usual any advice will be great

is it a sound original paint job that you rubbed down ?

if so no need for barcoat , its more of a last resort if the cars had multiple unknown bodge jobs that might react

yup its an unknown matte purple sprayed by previous owner

Pretty sure it says on the tin not to apply to bare metal.
