Get them from your local paint factors. I use the Upol acid etch and it is good.

I'll second the Upol etch primer, good stuff with a decent build to it aswell.

Only downside is that the nozzle (as with all Upol aerosols) are total garbage, tend to drip a lot.

I have found the tetrosyl 2 part etch primer to be very good. 2 light wet coats, give it half an hour, then your primer of choice over the top.

I started using ici longlife 2part etch primer about 20 odd yrs ago on steel & also alloy & brass I've never had a problem[that I know of!!] with any of those metals but perhaps epoxy is better, technology moves on,is there a reason that it should not be used on alloy?? cheers

ive used 2k acid etch on aluminium and steel for the last 30 years , the acid bites into the metal giving a good key . single etch isnt up to much but 2k most cetainly is . epoxy may be taking over as advances are made

I used Acid Etch for years on Aluminium too, Never had a problem.
Things moved on and i discovered Epoxy and its bonding abilities are amazing.

Acid etch doesn't work on GRP very well for obvious reasons.

The reason i mentioned epoxy on aluminium is ,i went on a jag course for 3 days,and i mentioned putting acid etch on aluminium.They put epoxy on there aluminum for warranty.So I'm only going on what jag recommend.

i think it's got to a personnel choice.acid etch is for ali,steel.grp. but epoxy is up there too. as for jags, it's one less stage .so save money
