Essential extras?

Hi all

Just getting to grips with my Clarke 135 bought sometime ago but had to complete an ou degree first .

As 50th birthday is coming up this year though I ask people for other essential items to get me set up.

Have mask gloves and a small compressor

Thinking items like clamps flap disks etc

If you were starting now what would you buy now future plans is to do a few old cars nothing fancy just like keeping sold cars on the road and timkeriti

A 4 post lift...

On a more serious note. Fireproof overalls and neck cover/hood.
Keep the sparks away from the skin when under a car.

Two sets of decent spanners and sockets, one is not enough. Come to think of it also deep sockets, shorty spanners, 3/4 drive gear for hubs etc, scaffy pole, decent jack and stands....
Welder's hood will be one of your best investments. Welding overalls or thick cotton jacket and trousers
Also a co2 fire extinguisher, no mess.
A welding blanket or cardboard to protect surfaces

The Knipex pliers wrench... a tool that you think 'why would I need that?' but once you get one you go looking for reasons to use it!

At 50 plus on the garage floor, knee pads, rubber flooring, and a heater for your garage.

Tools Halfords advanced is as good a place to start as any. Espescially if you can get a trade card.

Thanks like the pad idea after 20 years of karate my joints are knackered

I'm also a fan of halfrds advanced tried a trade card but computer engineer isn't on the list unfortunately

is the mask you have an auto one?

halfords give the cars out to anyone , tell them you repair car ecu or make up a headed letter

second the knipex gear , pliers wrench and the cobras are nice to own

Your on a slippery slope there, before you know it you'll be looking to enlarge your garage & workshop to fit all the tools in!

A pit is better than nowt but I have never liked working in them, you have to keep your wits about you when in one regarding fumes etc

A good 2nd hand trolley jack to watch out for is a Epco, I've a old 2 1/2ton one that is built to last, I've seen them abused lifting 2 or 3 times that weight and they keep on coming back for more. I don't abuse mine but it's nice knowing they are so strong.

My favourite wood is chunks of 9" x 4" about a 18" to 24" long, chuck some of them flat under a car instead of axle stands and it's not going anywhere especially with slabs of 1/2" rubber matting on top, I do use axle stands but have nearly pulled a car off them once so if I use them I always use wood as a backup.
