ESAB Eco-Tech Anti spatter

Has anybody used the ESAB eco-tech anti spatter spray ?,I've bought a can and so far i'm not getting to results i'd hoped for ,the spatter is still sticking,ive tried spraying only a thin layer as directed,ive tried soaking the metal,to be honest its not making any difference whether i use it or not,would i have been better off buying something thats not water based ? or are they all the same ?

We use that one most of the time at work, Seems to work as well as the next one.
Dont expect miracles from it though, it wont stop big lumps sticking.
A thin layer is good enough, putting too much on will give you porosity problems.

If you are welding into corners, of lots of runs in a small area it loses it effetivness, as do they all.

Just sent back 4 spray bottles of 'eco' water based anti-spatter. Smelt like diluted washing up detergent and was about just as effective (I guess). You do seem to need good (?) old fashioned solvents in this product. W/A

Funnily enough I was spraying some (Solent?) anti-spatter onto some welding fixtures yesterday and it smelt the same!

used to spray the anti-spatter on about half anhour before welding, seemed to work better (for me anyway). would spray on loads aswell. tho too much an you end up with porosity tho. it's a fine balance lol. try cleaning the weld area first and make sure youre settings are right to help cut down on spatter.

I have been doing a job with a rake of 4mm iron powder fillets which had to be kept clean - hence using anti-spatter, forgot to apply a couple of times and job was coming out just the same, so anybody want to buy.................W/A

after using that esab eco-tech c**p ,ive now bought a tin of this of eBlag and it does what it say's on the tin ,but it is solvent based .

If you want to really beat the spatter problem then you've got pay the price - the stuff which is in use at the car, truck manufacturers etc (in fact any major producer where the end product has to look good after painting and where spatter is a no no) is a highly refined vegetable oil blend which uses water as a 'carrier' and which does not burn off other than where the weld is laid down, in the right strength it works perfectly. Solvent based ones use a hydraulic oil as the active product and an etremely nasty solvent 'carrier' (which is more better known as a paint stripper such as Nitromors) - this is ok for very light welding but leaves a mess behind, useless on heavy welding as it burns off at far too low a temperature unlike the veg oil blend. Esab sell the premium product as do many welding outlets under The Works label.

i`m pretty sure thats what we have at work and TBH its useless... i honestly think`d get better results by peeing on the job first....

I've used their preweld stuff recently (in the tall cans), it's supposed to be held in a bag in the can with compressed air around it to push it out.

It worked for a couple of presses (?) of the nozzle then nothing.
Chucked the damned stuff away and bought something else.
