Esab compatible grinding masks?

I recently acquired and fixed up this ESAB mask and PAPR air feed unit.





The only issue is the mask does not have a grinding feature. When I am restoring cars the grinding dust is typically very dirty.

Does anyone know of a clear grinding mask that accepts the ESAB PAPR air hose please or could be adopted maybe with a 3d or other fitting?

Would rather avoid air compressor fed masks.

I guess ideally I may ebay auction this refurbished mask of mine and then buy a new ESAB air helmet which has a grinding mode.

Or, buy an esab g30/g40 if you can find a cheap one.

They do Jackson and are very helpful.

I have the Jackson grinding kit and am very pleased with it.
The headset can be bought separately if it fits your hoses.

I won't get to Belfast any time soon unfortunately. But I did order another ESAB hose with the thought that I could make a permanent connection to the Jackson helmet and just swap the connection at my ESAB PAPR unit which would be fine and much easier that way with a static connection to the grinding mask than trying to get the quick connect to work.

If you don't mind providing say the internal pipe diameter of your Jackson mask that would be a great help and I'll aim to order one this week.

I went ahead and ordered the Jackson grinding mask and will have it tomorrow ahead of planned welding this weekend.

I have a spare ESAB hose so I'll check how to make that connection. Will be a permanent one so should be straight forward enough to mod. I'll report back FWIW.

Update - the spare ESAB hose I have fitted inside the Jackson Mask socket with some room to spare. So since this is a second hose and I can therefore leave it permanently attached to the grinding mask I used black hot melt glue. Nice hot glob all around and bed it in.





Testing out the setup in the house, feels really comfortable and the visor stays clear with the air on.

Looking forward to trying this over this bank holiday weekend when I plan some car welding which includes grinding off old paint and underseal so this will get a decent test.

Not ideal that I'll be laying on the floor welding so I'll have to be careful to not damage the hose or PAPR unit in the process. (Standing up using it would be so much simpler but is what it is, I'll not always have to weld laying on the ground when I get my car lift situation sorted)

Conclusion on this thread - got to test the Jackson Mask today with my ESAB papr unit. Works great, visor stays clear and it's nice to not be directly inhaling grinding debris working at my car today.

Definitely a good safety upgrade and I'll be using it plenty.

Why didn't anyone warn me about the potential to crop dust ones self with a PAPR Unit!?

At this stage the outlet pipe should say "point towards enemy"
