Engine deck plate?

I'm considering rebuilding the engine on my Suzuki Samurai (same engine as Suzuki Swift and Baleno) as the engine that's currently on the car has a suspected cylinder head fault and I've now bought two used engines off eBay, one is in dire condition and the other also looks suspect.

Do I need to find an engine machine shop that has the correct "deck plate" (whatever that is, it's just what other forums are saying) in order to get the engine cylinders machined? These Suzuki G13 engines apparently suffer from oval cylinder wear so I'm counting on having to get the cylinders repaired.

Thousands of engines are rebored without the need for a torque plate. If you are after wringing the last drop of power out of a race engine then yes.
Even then not all engines need it. Chevrolet cast iron V8's are prone to bore distortion when the heads are torqued down, Ford not so much.
In short, don't worry about it.

All engines suffer from oval cylinder wear, how much depends on the engine design/spec, some suffer more than others.

Deck height is usually the pistons top to cylinder block/head mating surface measurements and thickness of the head gasket....well was when I built car engine years ago.

I think it's one of those engines like some of the older Renault diesels where the liners are kept in place by the head, in which case to bore it you will need to use a plate to keep the liners in place. I would have thought new liners would have been cheaper.

Press fit non replaceable liners I believe.

I did see the block has pressed in liners. So are press fit liners non replaceable? Can they not be pressed out? Can they be over bored? Bigger pistons are available.

They can't be pressed out because there is a ledge in the block they fit up to.
They can be replaced, they have to be bored out (not replaceable as far as Suzuki are concerned). No idea if liners are available.
Personally I would look for another engine.

New liners or find someone who's got a plate. Get a plate made and take it with the engine to the reconditioners?

I was going more on the weird suzuki process of getting them in/out, cant think of any engine I have worked on that has a liner installed like this

Ok so liners are non replaceable due to difficulty of removing them and replacements not available anyway. So the existing liners may need to be bored out and fit bigger pistons then?

Personally I would look for another engine.

Finding a good used engine is tough, I've now bought two and neither is good.

If you can get pistons (I would be surprised if not) then I would go for a rebore, it's looking like it's the best option.

I think it's to save weight. The Suzuki G engines were very light. They were used in aircraft as well due to their low weight.

Have you actually stripped down any of these engines to check for bore wear? That's the first thing, before worrying about deck plates etc. If it's a closed deck block with press fit liners, I wouldn't have thought you would need anything special for a re-bore.

Haven't stripped them yet. Still finishing the respray panel by panel. Wanted to do that first while we have good weather.
