No, it's not collusion. That would be silly. Neither is it a monopoly - there are loads of competing suppliers. If you want to know how the price cap is calculated, you can find that out. It is largely due to wholesale prices, which do go up and down. As does the price cap.You only have to compare prices, the cap goes up, they all follow suit. And as for people changing suppliers, it,s become pointless on the basis of cost, people now do it on customer service.
Wholesale electricity costs are way down from what they were at the height, yet the cap, and retail costs remain high, it's not collusion, they don't need to, the competition has gone.
If you feel you are being ripped off because of the price cap, no one is stopping you from moving to a fixed tariff that's not aligned to the price cap.
It's certainly not pointless moving suppliers. Try it.
