You only have to compare prices, the cap goes up, they all follow suit. And as for people changing suppliers, it,s become pointless on the basis of cost, people now do it on customer service.
Wholesale electricity costs are way down from what they were at the height, yet the cap, and retail costs remain high, it's not collusion, they don't need to, the competition has gone.

No, it's not collusion. That would be silly. Neither is it a monopoly - there are loads of competing suppliers. If you want to know how the price cap is calculated, you can find that out. It is largely due to wholesale prices, which do go up and down. As does the price cap.

If you feel you are being ripped off because of the price cap, no one is stopping you from moving to a fixed tariff that's not aligned to the price cap.

It's certainly not pointless moving suppliers. Try it.

as goes for getting cheaper tariff rates both gas and electricity, i dont get them as i refuse to have a smart meter so they wont offer me a cheaper tariff

im on a high priced fixed rate as they wont offer a cheaper tariff for non smart meter and i expect thats across the board for those that dont have smart meters

its unfair and as ive noticed for me to goto another supplier they quote they want the smart meter fitted so thats also a no as well

that in itself is a monopoly forcing non smart meter users to have a higher fixed rate tariff as they refuse to have a smart meter whilst offering lower tariffs to smart meter users

I did, yesterday, gave in with the £150 carrot edf were dangling. Then my water was cold - dopey fitter had moved the current clamp and put it **** backwards...

Octopus have never charged the price cap figures, always under it.

I'm with them, not through careful consideration, but two previous suppliers went bust and I ended up there. Not felt any need to look elsewhere though.
