I'm at the time in my young life where I need to pick what I want to do for the rest of my life, and guess what that is... A welder! I'm out to find myself an apprenticeship and I was wondering if there was anyone here who can recommend any safety courses etc.. That employers are looking for that would help me find a job.

Work for OCC, that would be a quality job.

I think because you live in Canada It would be difficult for most here to advise you, being from the UK.

If it were me I would look to find work in a manufacturing job rather than repair type works, but thats just me.

In the UK your stuffed if you want to weld for a living. Count bank notes or fiddle with your Mont Blanc and your bang on!

Can't recommend any safety courses from here - you should ask employers what they want!

But if you want to earn good money and travel the world, do pipeline welding. Skill wise it's the dog's wotsits, and you have to know tig and mma like you know how to breathe. Nothing better. Apparently the money in Canada is much better than Europe, too.

I know i'm being dumb, but when you say MMA welding is that the same as stick/arc welding?

Yes it is the same.
And yes I should look around for someone but it is a little hard. Everything that has to do with welding around here is mining or logging and its a little hard to get out into those operations and ask the pros questions (all the people in the office don't know anything). And yes there is lots of money to be made, I know of guys with their own trucks in Alberta making about 120 $ an hour. Plus the US is building a pipe line from Alaska down to them.
