Embarrassing minor accident !

Tigler, despite it feeling better I would absolutely recommend going back and having your scaphoid x-rayed, and them making 100% sure it is not fractured as others have stated.

About 7 years ago I fractured one of mine and it was missed, it took me 6 years (multiple A&E and GP visits) to convince them It needed an x-ray by which time there was a 6mm gap in the bone, last year I had to have two operations involving a bone graft from my hip and a screw through the bone to stabilise it, I spent a total of 6 months in a cast and the rest of the year in a splint.

I'm still in pain daily and can't even bend my wrist backwards as much as 45 degrees, it crunches and cracks and makes all sorts of horrible noises and it is almost certain It will develop arthritis before long - I'm only 25, and it's my dominant wrist.

I'm going back to the consultant next week to see if I can improve the situation any more but I fear I may have to go under the knife again, either to have the pin removed, or the whole wrist fused.

It may seem a hassle to go back but I wouldn't want you to go through what I have had to!

It can be a very bad injury mate, it used to be more known as the skateboarders injury cos when they wiped out inevitably down went the hand and......crack, hence the reason why a lot of more sensible old timers wear THESE

obviously, this could be a scaphoid break, or it could be nothing, but i'd get it checked again. i have experience with xrays being glanced at and things being missed.

i crashed a cbr400rr in 2008 just before xmas. lucky to be alive to be honest. dislocated left elbow, shattered my left qrist and thumb, broke 4 bones in left hand, 3 fractures in left forearm, 8 fractures in right shin, broken right kneecap, cracked right ankle and a hernia in my groin. treated over a few month in the hospital, hiving frequent xrays, and mri's and all the bloodtests and what not. but the bit where it gets interesting is after my leg had come out of cast nearly 2 months after all the ops to put me back together, the did one final xray and mri to make sure all had healed, and then they realise i had snapped 2 ligaments in my right knee. this resulted in another few weeks in hospital, all because the doc in charge didnt look at everything thoroughly.

he actually came up to my ward and asked if id accept his appology and owned up to not looking properly.

What a stupid thing, something as simple as a dentist appointment turns into a RPITA !!

The important question is: Did anyone actually see you go flying? Did you manage to get away without the usual multitude of people appearing as if from nowhere the moment you decide to look like a wuss with two left feet?


p.s: IMHO, if it's feeling better today, (sprains and bruises can take far longer to heal properly than a break takes to mend, btw, so pain factor is irrelevant), I'd just leave it and see how it goes. If you start obsessing over what may be a nonexistent injury/fracture, you'll only convince yourself you have one. Call me old fashioned, but if it ain't hanging off or spurting blood, you're fine.

Amazingly I don't think anyone witnessed it !! I did have a look around as I stood up, dripping wet all down one side

Luckily and thankfully it seems to be fine now. I've avoided giving that hand much to do and apart from a very small degree of stiffness at the extremes of movement it's ok. I think it was hyper extension of a tendon that was causing the pain.
Was reading recently that we break our toes on a regular basis but rarely notice !! Is that true ?

Yes very true, iv seen it a few times, although very minor dependent on where it is etc.

No broke my big toe two years ago and it hurt like a bitch and still does in the winter months

I've seen some horrific foot injuries, regretably on biking mates !! Feet, ankles, knee's, are typical bike accident results. Well, almost anything can be broken when coming off a bike but those seem to be common, along with broken arms, collar bones, fingers and wrists !!
The worst I've ever seen is on a mate who was riding a sidecar at the TT, lost it into a fast right hander and he slid into a curb hands first and exploded his left wrist, it was truly gruesome !! He seemed to be in surgery for years sorting that out.

Not a big fan of dentists, I had a problem with a wisdom tooth, cavity in one side (between it and the next tooth). Dentist filled it three times and each time the filling would fail. On the 4th trip back the dentist was on holiday and his temporary replacement (lovely South African chap) said "What? You shouldn't be getting that drilled and filled, if it was me I'd have it extracted!" which he did - actually a deal less painful than the drilling had been. He used some form of evil looking implement that levered it away from my other teeth (using them to push against), some nasty sounding cracking noises and out it came. Followed by a bit of digging around in the soggy mush left to pull out the roots.

Anyway, just went back today because the original dentist had caught the drill on the tooth next door and damaged the surface, leading to another cavity. Don't like to argue with dentists before work is done but I was determined I wasn't going to pay for fixing a problem he'd caused in the first place. Anyway, got my free filling though he didn't use an anaesthetic so not entirely sure I won that one...

my old man has painted a few lids for a side car team, and the last time he was down to drop helmets off he was talking about the time he mashed both his wrists on a kerb in isle of man TT

i forget his name but i can probably find it in the order book lol

He's not a well known rider, Nigel Smith.
He just wanted to live the dream of racing an outfit at the TT, mad ****** !!
He started with a classic outfit, BSA unit 650 motor, evil thing ! The machine he crashed at the TT was a modern 600.
Haven't seen him for years, last time I spoke with him he was living on the IOM.

thats the guy. my old man got a phone call one day asking if hed paint two lids with a design they had used before, and owned, so he agree'd and worked out a price. a few months later, we were sat watching th TT on tele, and there go the two lids, hurtling around the course he's done another 2 sets since then, as the passengers one from the first lot ended up taking the brunt of a fence post at 60mph lol

Your joking !! No way !! What an amazing coincidence !
One of his passengers was a girl, she must have had some !! He was always trying to get me to have a go as passenger but I value my life too highly to even think about it.
To see and talk to him he must be the least likely TT sidecar'ist ever !
I got involved when he was given my name to plumb up the oil, fuel and brake lines for the Beezer, which we ended doing free as a bit of sponsorship.
