Electronics Advice needed please

i have just acquired an over head crane that runs along an rsj, to operate the up and down you have to pull on a cord (one for up and another for down) having a little look inside its on a cam system which makes a connection for either up or down. (picture included)

now my question is, is it possible to put a more modern switch on to it, i.e push a button for up, push a button for down (i've attached a picture of what i would like on it).

any ideas welcome here, its not really a necessity as it works perfectly but boys and their toys and all that

yes instead of the microswitches and lever change them to a couple of relays then u can wire a flex down to your
pushbutton up and down switch

Just make sure you can't energise both relays at the same time.

You normally do that by feeding one relay/contactor through a N/C (normally closed) contact on the other.

I have an old Morris with the same lever arrangement... it came with two lengths of chain and wooden handles (those who recall outside privvies will know the sort of thing! ) and had been used for hoisting cows in a slaughterhouse.

I have a spare pendant somewhere and it's another one on my "5-minute-jobs" list to convert the hoist to relay control.

Buy a pair of contactors with a mechanical interlock that prevents both pulling in at the same time, AND electically interlock them by feeding the coil of one via an 'NC' auxillary contact on the other.
