Electronic Gadgets?

Now I'm someone that is open to evolution, But can someone explain to me why the hell you would want one of these:

Bought a fob for it as I've just moved in with a mate & he didn't have a spare. Currently hearing it having a bleeping meltdown every two minutes! Hopefully the batteries die on it & yes the door is definitely shut properly

But my real question is what was wrong with just a normal door lock?

Alot of these soo called gadgets just seem to complicate simple solutions

Another conversation which regularly occurs here is all the electrical junk on the modern day vehicles

Keep it simple stupid springs to mind

Can't fault the doorbell. Also have a security light/cam to keep an eye on the van.

My daughters uni has them on all doors. She has one single fob to operate her accommodation blocks front door, the flat door, and her bedroom door.

@Morrisman I have a fob for my storage unit which works great, But this Yale door lock I'm not buying into it!

@eLuSiVeMiTe I'm just not into this whole big brother business. Quite happy not knowing what's going on whilst at work or away etc. Never had any trouble in any of my previous places. So don't see the need for CCTV personally

Our boatyard has a fob to get in and out of various areas, I like it, much better than carring huge bunches of rattling keys like a screw in Porridge.
