Electromagnetic Propulsion

Whilst studying diesel electric propulsion and the various drives etc I remembered reading about Linear Electric Propulsion or Electromagnetic Propulsion many years ago during my cadetship and that this could well be the future. Well the future is here and still no progress?!

Quite interesting and IIRC The Red October was based on this idea.
Think once I get some spare time I will be attempting to build the model included in the article

I believe the MOD and US has implemented and done testing of such devices for projectiles = amasing speed.

Linear motors have been around for a while. The Germans have a demo monorail using them. IIRR The Kusk had some sort of system that was similar to the Red October book. Tom Clancy has some well connected friends...

Havent you ever seen a rail gun in action? They are still in the science toys stage to teach about magnetism but they cant be bloody powerful things

how true is it though we see an explosion and flames when fired ?
