Electrode holder arc

As a DIY welder,is this ok for a 140 amp arc welder,and are these holders any good

For £9.79 you can get it with a decent looking earth clip.

I use that 400A type on all my stick welders.
Whatever they came with i chopped off to fit these.
Cheap enough to have a couple of spares.

I've had one of those holders for 40 years or more , if you hold them correctly with the lead over your shoulder the angle of the electrode is perfectly positioned for angle and cant of the electrode . Take care to hold the head and screw the sleeve up do it the other way round and you'll eventually end up twisting the end of the cable off.
Another thing ensure you use the correct sized cable wire thimbles on the lead ends as this will hold the crimping/fixing screws properly & not spread the wire .

It's my preferred type too, they're very fast, very secure, and low profile for getting into awkward spaces.

I wnet looking for the Myking ones (the ESAB one will be made by Myking and painted yellow) and found this, an electrode holder with onboard amp control, which I had not seen before:

That's an interesting bit of kit, especially specifying it's for thyristor controlled units only, which dates it somewhat.

Yeah Myking or the Esab yellow ones are where it is at...

I've tried various different rod holders and although I liked the esab one alot I have now switched over to this type pictured as when doing alot of welding I prefer the quickness of the lever clap apposed to the twist and tighten ones.
