You sometimes get a small tingle with stick welder but nothing to worry about. If using TIG with HF that can smart
The one that usually gets me is propping an elbow on the table/weldment, forgetting the return clamp (see coffee comment) and trying to strike an arc. Does a better job than coffee at waking me up in the morning
With bare skin you're more likely to get UV and/or spatter burns. Cover up for protection against those and chances of getting a tickle are tiny. Being sweaty raises the odds some... sweat soaked gloves and changing the electrode with stick for example.
It's not uncommon to end up laying over/on the thing you're welding in order to reach

I was worried about getting a shock while mig welding when I first started.
I made a ridiculous set of jigs to hold small components while I tacked them together.
Then I tried holding the smaller component and tacking it onto the main piece. No shock, life got easier.
Recently a blacksmith yelled at me that i was going to electrocute myself like this. he had just finished his blacksmithing degree and did not know there was no risk in touching the workpiece when Mig welding. I was amazed that he did not know this.
So yes you are quite safe. But it is worth asking this kind of thing.

Thanks for asking the question, I was fairly sure MIG wasn't going to give me a shock but I hadn't considered the HF start on TIG. Lucky my TIG doesn't have HF start really :-)

It's always worth asking these things, I've scared my self a few times on this forum by reading about dangerous things I probably wouldn't have thought twice about doing. I dunno if that makes me stupid or just inexperienced as I do all this stuff as a hobby and come from an IT background. Namely the threads about grinding into an empty barrel and welding over steel cleaned by brake cleaner.
I had a kick of my Tig last week, wasn't that bad, HF sends the security cameras funny though
Had a few using the same machine when stick welding, shouldn't really grab the end of the rod to bend the rod, soon change my numpty ways when that happens
When I was an apprentice, we used to cross all the tools, on the work bench, then connect the transformer for the etcher to the first and last tool, was about 90v, gave a nice belt when someone tried to borrow your set square, would be a stackable offence now, but as a 17 yr old how we laughed

It makes you inexperienced, but smart because you have spent time on this forum reading about dangerous things.
occasionaly get a littel ticcel of te migs at work but that only when there is water about and touching the metal swan neck of the torch and the work at the same time and pulling the trigger but its only a minor ticcel
the arc will give you a bit of a kick when working out in the wet ( not te best idea ) if teh rods are dry you can hold them and not get a shock
it is possible to get quite a nasty kick of the plasma if the torch in knackerd or your holding the eath clam and work when someone else fires it up.

I've had a few buzzes arc welding bits together when you get a sticker and it lifts up the bit you are welding so inadvertently just grab it to pull it off the rod, that's why I now like crocodile type holders. Dry gloves would protect you from most of it though.
