Electric power steering pump

Am currently doing an engine conversion and the power steering pump is stupidly close to the steering box so I'm thinking of fitting a electric power steering pump instead of relocating the mechanical pump. Has anyone done this? What pump did you use? Ideally I'd want one that doesn't require a ecu.

Citroën saxo have an electric power steering pump...can be relocated anywhere...i put the pump behind the driver seat for a saxo hill climbing car i done ages ago...three wire hook up if i think....

Do away with the pump and use an electric column from a Corsa.

Thanks for all the info guys! Has definitely given me some motivation. I think fitting a electric pump would be allot more simple than grafting in a corsa electric column. Then again, fitting both will give feather light steering!

Do not fit an electric column or rack. They are a pain.

Seat ibiza, vw polo have a small electric power steering set up, it is mounted in the inner wing. plenty on ebay.

We just use the 106/saxo pump unit on the buggy.

its for my pickup truck running 33" tyres, 13" wide. would these wee pums be up to the task?

yes should be ok..the main rack takes most of the stress.the pumps there just to assist...

Easily, ours is a comp safari rig so it takes some serious abuse and there's enough pump power that the steering doesn't get snatched even over the rutted stuff.

vauxhaul astra from 2000 has a handy pump and reservoir all in one if its any help
