Electric motor testing.

if i want to test a motor should i bolt it down on the bench so it doesnt move about? opinions please.

i wouldnt bother unless there was someting atached to it . do it on the floor though not the bench

put it on the floor, put something on it to put it under light strain, and stand back incase it moves. just because it will run under no load doesnt mean it will run under load, so depending on the size of the motor, give it something to run

Depends on the size of motor really. I've tested 2hp on the floor with my foot on it.

The whole thing is bound to try to rotate in the opposite direction to the shaft.

Leaving it unbolted is sometimes a good way of checking balance
