electric motor info wanter

Im trying to find some info on an electric motor.It come form a stair lift
it a Flender Himmel
type C10 ic4-l4/1.8 240v AC 50hz
Its single phase reversing the connection box has no marking but there are 4 wires 2 comming from one hole 2 coming from another hole. Plus 2 wires for the brake on the rear of the motor which is also 240v AC

It has a gerbox on the end which truns the drive 90 degrees wiht a final rotation of 18rpm

we want to wire it up and get it in use for a hog roast machine

a little difficult from your description, but firstly is it a brush motor, in which case I expect one pair of wires to be the field windings and the second the armature windings (directly from the brushes)? Connection is normally series and reversing one set relative to the other changes rotation direction. Brakes are usually power for off, i.e fail safe.

That said there can be other permutations, the motor windings may be connected in parallel for instance but reversing the connections still applies.

If google is no help and no other advice is forthcoming I would suggest connecting as my first suggestion, and with a sensible size fuse and give it a try. Do check the brake works and releases first though.
