electric ceramic heaters? anyone got one

was watching some shopping channel and they had these flat panel ceramic heaters , they was suggesting it gets to full temp in say 3mins and stays warm for up to an hour , implying a few mins elec use per hour

anyone got one ? do they really stay hot for so long ? sounds a bit too good to be true

Its bullshattery Im afraid. Its a standard chinese heating element with a ceramic panel that is almost insignificant for heat storage and release. Yes we have several, my parents were guillable to be sales pitch and spent £4500 on them.

Personally I think an oil filled electric would do the same job much better. However theres no such thing as free energy - if its stored then its not heating you. Its an inefficiency.

I see theres a lot of carbon infrared picture frame/ thin panel heaters being advertised, low power things that wont get nearly hot enough to radiate out, and most of their energy would be wasted by conduction into the wall/ceiling.

When they come on, you can instantly feel the convection out the top. I've never known the outer ceramic panel to get warm or hot. Inside is a smaller ceramic in the convection path, I guess that is what the 3 mins and hour refers to.

Heres some pics, ours broke and I repaired it. £4500 counts for nothing when a 10p part blows after 2 years..

However, theres nothing particually wrong with them, 2000w feels like 2000w however you use it

no better than a standard dimplex pannel heater only 3 times the price .you cant get more heat out of them than what power is put in

The only way to get more out is with a heat pump but that gets complicated very quickly in low winter temperatures.
Best/cheapest option is probably wood burner or gas. Electric costs a lot more and is generally rubbish.
