our 8.5kw triton is on its last legs , thinking of sticking with triton for lazyness of fitting

are any of the other brands leagues ahead ? dont want nothing too spendy

screwfix has mira and the flow rate is a fair bit less that tritons of similar cost

Even a new Triton my have the pipe and cable entry in a different position.
Don't get one any bigger unless your cable is up to it!

most of thiers boast multiple entry points , but if theres an way better one for similar coin then im listening , tbh weve had 2x and theyve lasted okay

We have a Redring 9.5kw, first one lasted 12+ years iirc which isn't bad (hard water area).

Multi entry, stuck with Redring for replacement and it fit straight in.

They have a nice cool down feature, when you turn it off it shuts heater down and runs the water for 5 to 10 seconds to cool the heating element (presume all makes do?).

and i bet its wired in 6,0mm cable on a 40 amp breaker or fuse because its rating is about 35 amp . if it is it should only have a 32 amp fuse fitted and when running will probably trip . it should be wired in 10.0mm to be on a 40 amp breaker

Out of interest, what's wrong with it? I also have a Triton, and occasionally it doesn't heat the water for a short time - sometimes when I first switch it on, but more annoyingly sometimes when I am standing under it the water will start to run cold. The "low pressure" indicator isn't on, and (so far) it comes back after a few seconds. It's not very old, maybe 2019 or early 2020.

The first job I had to do when we moved house was to fit a temporary pumped mixer shower under strict instruction from the wife.
An electric shower would have resulted in much unhappyness in my life!
That temporary pump is still there 8 years later but should be ripped out this year...

I've been through 3 or 4 Triton Opal 10.5kW showers on top of replacing a heater unit and repairing a control board (dropper cap). The first lasted the longest, the later ones only a few years each. I'm in a hard water area and the worst problem is flakes of limescale breaking off the heater and clogging the shower head. That means stripping the head for de-scale every month, and their latest design shower head is abysmal for disassembly.

Check carefully, I had a similar problem (the old unit died) so replaced it with identical model & spec from the same maker so I could swap out without needing to change the pipework / risk damaging the tiles.

The new unit had the water & electric connections in different places so I still had to spend time moving the pipes.

possibly be the thermal cutout faulty if its not low water pressure do you hear it click at all when it does it

think its furred up inside , random heat output , low flow as i assume it cant heat it fast enough , its getting on 15 years old so cant moan at all

I think there is something like that, yes. It hasn't done it for a week or so but I'll listen out for it - I thought it was more of a "cough", accompanied by a brief change in the water as if there had been a bit of air in a hose pipe, but it's difficult to recall exactly.

We got pump and mixer upstairs off gas boiler in bedroom and shower head over bath in bathroom.

We also got electric shower in shower room down stairs - and it is godsend when boiler breaks.

Council house type gas fire in living room as well.

So when boiler breaks and we can shower and stay warm in front room.

Best words of wisdom are make sure all the connections are tight, particularly in the isolator switch. The number of melted switches and shower terminals are surprising.
