einhell!!!!!!!

hi all,

ive dug out of my shed a einhell sga 200/2 again!!!first aquired the welder about 7 years ago,put a euro torch on it,got gas(argoshield)put wire on,and hey presto,everything was fine,exept,power at the weld was very weak,wire running fine,wire just about melts.anyone any ideas with this machine any info appreciated....thanks

could be a number of things really, its difficult to say, im having issues with my MIG and havent decided if its the contactor unit or the capacitors. It may be a case of opening it up and taking a peak inside to see if you can see anything physically wrong and if not getting a multimeter out

all looks ok inside,like i say its doing everything it should,apart from lack of power(very small arc) at the tip.can i put a multimeter across tip to earth,then move power setting (one click at a time)to see if power goes up,what sort of reading should be there

stuh, you're looking for a voltage - and a different one for each setting. Lowest will (probably) be around 15v. Highest will be in the mid-high 20's. Ignore current (anyway, youll kill your meter if you try and read that).

Just set your voltmeter to a scale over 20v, connect it between the tip and earth (as you supposed), pull the trigger and read. Take a note of the reading for each different setting.

multitest

right chaps,quick question,on my tester i have 2 volts settings i take it:1 is ac , 1 is dc,one is with V+squiggle andthe other setting is V+staight line with dotted line underneath.i get a reading from both.
the results are as follows
with multimeter connected to the earth clamp and end of torch.
with no trigger pressed reading 7.8v
on setting 1 with trigger pressed reading 9.2v
on setting 2 with trigger pressed reading 10.3v
on setting 3 with trigger pressed reading 11.8v
on setting 4 with trigger pressed reading 13.7v
on setting 5 with trigger pressed reading 16.9v
on setting 6 with trigger pressed reading 18.1v

on the other v setting on the multimeter these are reduced by about 3 volts each
what do ya'll reckon now

Well first, it looks like you tested on the dc volts bit (I should have said that), which is good.

And second, you're a bit short in the volts department, which is bad.

Third, I know nothing about how mig electronics work, so you'll have to wait for someone who knows what they're talking about to suggest what to do next.... Which is what you get when any old fool can reply to your questions!


I'd hazard a guess that your transformer has gone up the swannee, but like I say, I don't know nowt, so don't take my word for it.

hello all new to this site , im a welding engineer so will try help if can .
Are you sure unit is a single phase unit .
had these welders in for repair and they sell some 400 volt single phase.
voltage is low with those settings you will only be able to weld setting 4 upwards .
does the unit have capacitors ad if so what is the voltage .
also put the meter to AC voltage and test at the transformer out windings to the rectifier .
this will at leats check us the reccy

Welcome onboard baweld. That makes excellent sense. The voltages stuh posted were very low, and the 415V to 230V conversion would make them about right.

Are there any jumpers in that machine that could be altered to make the voltages right again? My Syncrowave has some jumpers to adjust it for input voltage.

but look on plate at back of set for the voltage .
