Edwards Pearson Brake Press

Anyone got any experiences with the newer Edwards Pearson stuff.
Company I used to work for had an old one which seemed pretty robust. It was CNC , but had a very clunky interface.
Looking to purchase new as want warranty , parts availability , etc.
Looking for a 125T 3 metre minimum as I want to be able to bend 6mm over full length.
It’s not going to be abused day in day out. Mainly folding 3mm plates for big wheeled stillage bins, 6mm walkway angles (3m long) , various flashings , stair treads, brackets etc. will also open up opportunities to make feed troughs and the like for some of my farmer clients .
+ I’ve been wanting one for a while now
The one shown is £27k + Vat including delivery and installation ( it’s a pre sold one but with full warranty)
That’s about the sort of money I want to spend . The other one in that price range is a Carter.
Obviously not going to built like old school stuff, but must be a few out there doing service day to day ?

With that variety of work, save a good few grand back for tooling... a set of top and bottom for hemming wont be cheap...

looking at the picture, it looks like they have stuck a badge on an imported machine. I’m guessing it might be a generic number , that the importer takes on as their own. How old is your guilly ? I was looking at those too, seem to be around £20K ish as cnc unit. Would need it to cut 6mm o/p durbar . Last person I spoke to said to get one that would cut 10mm as the durbar is a bit harder to cut and would need the capacity.

Yeah you’ll need that capacity.

96 or 97 I can’t remember exactly.

It’s definitely an import, I forget now whether it’s Czech Republic or Poland.
I think now the carter machines are turkey, but I could be wrong.

That Pearson will be an import too.

Have you considered something a bit more universal and therefore easier to get parts for and fix, like an Amada, Promecam or even a Guifil? LVD make decent brakes.

For guillotines, new CNC ones, I’d probably have a Trumpf or again Amada.

Where I worked we had a ten year old Baykal import from Press and Shear and an a new Amada. The Amada was a much better machine in several respects but the Baykal was solid and reliable. Might be worth talking to Press and Shear although I’m not sure they’re doing Baykal anymore.

It looks like a Promecam that was in a boiler making factory I worked in. It was a pain in the proverbial with all the light guards but it was a good machine.

Yep definitely avoid any sort of light guards.

90% of the downtime my old firm had was due to electrical issues related to light guards and e stops on their fleet of amadas

Bear in mind also, press brakes like to be warm if you’re looking for repeatability.

Not the best of advice. If HSE wander in and spot a machine with no lightguards you're getting a Prohibition Notice and paying for the privilege.
I know what you mean though, we had loads of trouble with ours. Spent 3K on a new set which solved the problem.
Saves someone putting a 90 degree fold in yer fingers, especially if there's two of you at the machine

We have got a 100T 98 ish Guifil, the old girl does alright for what we need it for. Had a smaller Promecam before that which was faultless. Avoid the chinesium new ones. Next door bought a semi CNC Morgan Rushworth and wish they hadn't.
Trumpf and Amada are good makes as Brad says.

I would scour the used machine adverts and buy a decent second hand original name machine that hasn't been hammered within an inch of its life. You will get a lot more for your money, even if it needs some work doing to it. A CNC machine is wasted on the jobbing fab work which it sounds like you do.
New Morgan Rushworth are only Morgan Rushworth by name. Scratch the surface and they are generic chinglish machines, built to a price rather than a standard.

Ive got a big bronx cnc buts thats to old for this conversation
I had someone sort of mock it when he bought new chinesium, he wasnt so clever when it broke and I mean broke and the warranty was return to factory for repair..

If I was laying out fair money I like trumpf (I worked for them in the nineties)and amada. I rather have a used one than new chinesium.

My all time favourite are pearson, bronx and edwards. Got a soft spot for Cincinnati as well
