educate me on high tensile steel

what different high tensile steels are there, can they all be welded with 7018 rods or not and what are the more readily available types to a hobbyist and what sizes?

i have received an email asking if i can find some inch x inch high tensile, around 12 meters but haven't a clue what it is for, supposedly to carry 2 ton weight so in assuming it is for something to do with lifting a car maybe

you should be able to get a chart from a stockholder ,under the old EN codes amongst the ones i use en1a is unweldable as it contains lead,en16 has approx half again the tensile strength of m/s @ around 45t/sq inch if i'm unsure of the grade i want to weld i would pre-heat & use a nickel/chrome rod,but it all depends on usage & risk of injury in service,theres many variants also depending on hardening properties,en codes are replaced now,pre & post weld treatment become critcal with more alloying elements.

sounds complicated and its not worth the money he is offering. Ill tell him i don't deal with high tensile as i don't really want the job anyway
