Thanks for that but I think you may have misunderstood my question. With a 12 volt vehicle system the voltage can vary between 11v and 14.8v due to alternator out put. What I want to know is are your 12 volt fans able to work over this range without problems.

In that case I think there is a problem. I fitted the fan and it worked ok. Then I started the engine and the fan stopped working immediately, and hasn't worked since. I checked the battery voltage and it was 14.7v. Do you have any idea why that would happen?

That fan was sold as being for automotive use, so it should be able to run at the normal voltage in an automotive electrical system. As you have confirmed to me it can't run at over 12 volts I consider the fan was miss sold to me as it was not as described and unfit for purpose.

I've always found it's quicker to open a case with ebay when products turn up that are made of pure Chinesium. Previously I've had 'we'll refund you blah amount' etc. timewasting from sellers, the same as you've had.

Recently I ordered a 1 tonne girder trolley to lift some chunky machinery that I'm moving around one of the workshops here. I then received what was clearly a 1/2 tonne (but unmarked with any SWL or WLL labelling ) girder trolley packed in a cardboard box which had a pasted on '1 tonne' paper label. I stated pretty much the spiel above, opening a wrong item sent case - the ebay robot said you'll hear from the seller in x days etc..... then I got another message from ebay the same day, your case has been escalated by ebay, you've been refunded. So, if anybody wants a slightly iffy girder trolley, free of charge, I have one right here, available for collection....

Quite. I complained about a pair of work trousers that featured a 'phone pocket that wouldn't take anything bigger than a matchbox. They wanted photos, to which I replied "Why, you have them in stock and surely you can just look at them?". Response was some nonsense about they wanted to decide what partial refund to offer. I just returned them via Amazon's system and had a full refund.

My suspicion about photos is that the supplier has to justify anything that comes back to superiors and photos are a record. Other than that, I don't have a clue.

My latest one was a response from the seller 4 days after my order saying "when we were about to dispatch your wheel bearing we noticed it was damaged. We tried our supplier and they don't have any." So drop shippers who work slowly then. They sent a refund but the combination of eBay and Paypal works well if they don't.

I tried some different search terms and ordered 3 sets of old stock wheel bearings that were cheaper in the hope that one of them will arrive on Saturday. The other two sets can go in stock. I'm not short on cars they will fit and worth having them if they are getting rare.

I think you made that more difficult than it had to be by getting them to confirm the voltage. You know it should work, you know it doesn't work and you know you deserve a full refund, why waste time asking questions? Just say it doesn't work and ask for a return label.

There used to be a similar situation the other end of the country in regards to the Isle Of Wight. It shares its postcode with part of the mainland, so anyone on the mainland in that postcode couldn't get a delivery without an extra charge because the vendor/courier was convinced it was an IOW address despite having the full address.

Ebay is nothing but a flea market nowadays. I bought a (allegedly) semi pro ice maker, which was a couple of hundred quid. What turned up was utter junk, nothing like the description and it took a full 14 hours to actually make some ice. Complained to the seller, full refund and they didn’t want the thing back, leaving me to have to take it to the tip.

Ebay is also littered with counterfeit stuff as well. Car oil filters, allegedly Fram brand but completely empty. No actual filtering media inside the outside case. Reported to Trading Standards, who did absolutely nothing about it.
