Earth Clamps & Cable

as above what are the best ones to use ie make made from what and the most conductive one more thing is thicker earth cable of more benefit cant remember what mine is at the moment but i want to change it for a 5 meter one just not sure of the thickness of cable to order this is all for a mig thanks

the one i have at the moment is a migatronic soon to be replaced.i will be replacing the earth lead on what ever i buy next for a longer one (5 meters) also a 4 meter torch just wondered if thicker cable was better or not and a better earth clamp or maybe even a magnetic one hmmm

thicker cable is always better ... to a point. I would go one size over the rated current for my welder.... would? i did LOL

You still haven't said what power the welder is. That, along with the length, will dictate the size, or more specifically the cross section of the cable.

if the welder has small dinze socket for the earth clamp you are limited to 35mm

35mm will cover 250 amps at 10 meter length 16mm at 5 meter length will carry 150 amp

madkayaker & brightspark perfect thats all i needed to no my welder does have a dinze socket but i take it these can be changed remember im doing this as a bit of an upgrade so to speak & i may use one of those earth magnetic clamp things that can be turned on and off they look very handy
