Earth cable

Hello Guys.
More advice than a problem, I have an old Migatronic 180 Mono,I want to extend the earth(work) cable but need to I D the original cable and not sure how to do it without taking it off the machine and taking to a suppliers (No Dinse panel socket as yet)in anticipation.

It's standard stuff Norm. All you need is the correct cross sectional diameter (mm2). If you're going to the trouble of extending it then why not stick a panel socket on as you suggest and then it becomes a whole lot easier

Edit: forgot to say - 25mm2 will do 200A and would be the size I'd use for a (presumably) 180A machine.

thanks for the info, the panel socket conversion is on going (9.5mm I believe) is the correct size for socket and plug.

Replace the clamp with a Female dins socket then attach a new length with a male dins to it.

I got some dinse plugs and sockets gifted and was going to use them but they are 35-50 a little large so I've cut some 15mm copper pipe slotted it and going to bush the plugs and sockets it should be ok.

My migatronic 180(or was it 200?) Mono has a type of dinse on the front with two earthing options. Want me to check measurements? I think it's quite chunky

Mine just has the lead coming out the front with the earth clamp on, I think the Dinse panel socket type is 9.5mm.

Don't know if this is a help or not really.

It's a pretty old machine. And looks like it uses a 1/2" connector of some kind.

A more modern version might run on lighter cables. The outer diameters of both the earth and mains power cable would be around 17mm at a guess.

The size of earth lead needed is related to the max power of the mig it's self
