E18 torx socket alternative

I've agreed to do the rear pads and discs on an astra,like a prat i didnt do any homework,just looked at the manual online and discoved i need a E18 socket.............erm i haven't got one,only place i might get one is my local Halfords,but looking online i dont think they have that size, E16 yer but no E18
So,what normal socket could i get away with without telling anyone
Or tip/trick

You might get a 6 sided socket to work, But it needs to be a tight fit.

No way am i buying a set,single yer for a few quids as i'll prob never used it again
Its on a 57 plate with quite high mileage so i'm hoping they've been cracked off before(clutching at straws i know)

A 14mm 6 point socket is a nice virgin fit on an e18 bolt

Yeah I just compared a E18 socket to a 6 point & they look very close in size!

Being cracked off before isn't always a good thing, most of the grief I've had is from bolts that have been done before and lads have rounded heads, put them back in without cleaning or overtightened.

E18 I think is 14mm socket. 6 point should grip it nicely.
If 12point I possibly would go impaerial and hammer it on a bit.

The newer multi grip spanners will grab them also.

E bolts like to round for fun with the wrong tool

Vectra B’s have a lock tighted E11 pinch bolt on the steering column, most people use a 12 and ruin it

Guys a 14mm 12 point did the trick with a good tap on


Nearside came undone without any swearing,wheres the offside top bolt was a sod(pictured above) so it was gently gently please dont strip the head off time
