I recently bought a pedestal grinder from around the late 1930s which has these “Dust-Proof” housings in front of the bearings which house what seems to be a felt seal which contacts the on the flanges that the grinding wheels sit on to keep the grinding dust out. One seal was OK but the other was mostly gone and completely soaked with grease, so might as well replace both while I’m at it.
You can get sheets of felt “oil seal” which are quite expensive, seeing as I only need a couple of small strips about 6mm thick and 8mm wide. Does anyone know of a good place to get this felt stuff from? Or whether there’s a better alternative that’s been developed in the last 90 years?
