Dust extractor recommendations for Blast Cabinet

Finally got to try it out in anger at weekend. My concerns about grit pickup were unfounded no problem at all. Consistent blasting and not too much pain on the compressor.

Problem I've got is the dust. Not using brand new aluminium oxide grit may be part of the problem and I intend to remedy this.
I had hoped the cyclone system on the rear of the cabinet would extract the dust or at least keep it down but it doesn't, it merely cycles the grit back to the hopper for feed back to the gun.

What I really need is a decent dust extractor. The is another aperture on the cabinet approx 4" currently blanked off that I intend to use. What are the cheap wood dust extractors like?

Is a 1HP motor going to be enough to suck the dust out of the cabinet? I'm guessing I'll need different bags to suit finer dust.

i use the woodchip extractor with 4 inch ducting with a large fine mesh filter inside so all the decent grit stops in cabinet but it extracts the dust out and gives a good clear view can phograph it if u want and put it up in post

Is that a machine mart one or similar and what HP motor?
No problem with the grit side of things that falls to the bottom and is recycled by the cyclone. It's just the fine dust I want to extract from near the top of the cabinet.

If anything I was concerned that the wood dust bags would let through the very fine blasting dust into the open air. I thought most wood dust bags filtered to around 5 microns. I'm thinking 1 micron may be more appropriate for blasting purposes.

For a small sealey cabinet we used a bagless vacuum cleaner .(freecycle donation)ad used a plastic 25litre drum for a seperator ..redneck style ,cost nothing worked well...removed only airbourne dust

Problem is my cabinet is quite large and a normal Vacuum cleaner won't really do it. In fact I'm concerned the smaller industrial dust extractors might not be upto the job. Just want to know If someone else uses one of these and if it's any good.

heres a few pictures.the filter in cabinet is the base of a gas bottle and a filter used for over a frying pan with the handle cut off which fits perfectly it sieves the dust out no problem not letting any decent grit through. theres good visibility even when using a pressurised pot in it .the extractor fan can pull more air out than a 3.mm.jet at 90psi can deliver which stops the cabinet pressurising .i use a mesh grid for the base with a smaller rubber mat on top this stops the gun blowing up the grit from below adding to bad vision the outlet just goes outside shed and blows away no diffrent from blasting outside not that theres a lot mind soon sweeps up .i dont know the size of motor its not stamped on .u will be wanting to filter the dust before release to atmosphere the best bet is ring guyson up and ask what filters they sell and how many micron . they use consetina bags that shuffle the dust to the bottom keepng the filters clear all the time the woodchip ones may clog up quick

I've got the Clarke equivalent of Brighrspark's extractor in my blastroom.

Those bags let quite a bit of dust through.

Also had proper bag filters at another place ,they have the bags between blast room and extractor,to protect the extractor,and a vibrator to shake the bags,the dust then fell into a collection bin at the bottom ,we were using glass beads ,and found it difficult to reduce enough to stop some grit from going through,we did tip back into machine to get most out of the grit,let the dust go back through ,big unit and 3ph though ,worked well...

I have a blower discharging in to one end of my cabinet then a bend and vertical pipe vent on the other end which lets the heavier stuff fall back down again. The vertical pipe then attatches to my blacksmiths forge flue via tumble dryer hose. maybe a bit on the illegal side?? but it works fine.
