Dudley's coming........

Last two days we have had winds far worse than when Dudley was in town. Strange really.

Sunday evening the wind was horrendously around my place, but around midnight it stopped totally.
I put my green bin out.

Monday morning 7:30 I awoke to scraping bang.... my bin was on its side in the middle of the road. Lucky everything is black bagged so my detritus wasn’t spread up the street, like someone’s recycling was last week.

But my point was the next two were not supposed to be as bad as the first one..lol

I think it depends on where you live. Dudley always was forecast to hit more to the north and Eunice more south. Here in Cornwall Dudley (on Feb16th) was a bit of a dud peaking with a 58.4 mph gust whereas Eunice was Eunasty at 89.5 mph. Franklin was frankly as big a dud as Dud!

After getting things so wrong in the past I think the Met office now err on the side of caution by forecasting the worst and then hoping for the best.

We're still on the genny from Saturday, So far so good...
I swear the electric induction hob was cooking hotter the other day, i had to turn it down a notch, gennies often run slightly higher voltages than grid supplies and as we're at the end of a long overhead run we probably normally have a fair old volt drop.

I finally got my cheque from npower yesterday for our five days off grid and genny living during storm Arwen.

Of course if many of these power companies didnt use run to failure maintenance strategies and cut back some of the trees we would get a bit less of this.

We had two days on the genny, only a 9kva petrol but it never missed a beat which is amazing because initially it was half full of stale petrol and hadn't been used for about five years. Did guzzle some fuel though.

Western Power have been fairly on the ball with this down our way. I had a chap wandering around my place and he was a tree company working on their behalf. Said they were going to prune a hazel below my incoming line and wantedd permission, said they'd be around in the New Year in a few weeks time. I thought surely not but 2 weeks later they were there and then all over the village pruning back potential hazards.

Despite being one of the most exposed properties and losing about 3 dozen slates and 2 60ft firs never lost power or internet.

For a short while,Monday am had stronger gusts than Friday.
Our view from the balcony,the road on the other side of the river (the faster water),was impassable to all but tractors,the current flows at 90 degrees to the road,with enough force to push vehicles into the hedge and earlier,had pinned a chiller van into it at precarious angle,quarter mile further on was an RTA of some sort,a fire engine attended and someone was extracted.
I’ve gone thru that flood to help someone in an old JCB,I could feel the current pushing me towards a car ,water up to the top of the dash,yet I was 6t !

Sitting with Mom... At 63 I have learnt a lot since a week yesterday. And it's not good...my sister and her daughter have been here all week. My son managed to give them a break one night but due to my wife's care needs I can't stay over.

After seeing what they have for a week they decided to fast track mom home. So have gone to Dad's to ready the bedroom for mom. Maybe hours maybe days but my Dad is too ill to get here and he feels helpless.

Let's put it like this if those" enranged" at seeing a footballer kick and slap a cat could see what they do when your dying they would be....@#$%^$#&%$#% .
Well they probably wouldn't......but they should be..

I know this is late - but I have walked that road - its hard - and I feel for you.
