?Dubious bidding or not?

The BIN price was £450, bargain but I could not manage it when I first saw it, so returned a day later to find a 99p bid. Fair enough, but that bidder dropped out at £10.

The concerning part is that a new bidder arrived at the BIN price and it is now just me and them.

?Coincidence? or ?Did the seller realise that the BIN price was too cheap, bid 99p to clear it and then starts bumping it over the BIN?

I do not use the bay a lot, so I may be just paranoid.

You can contact ebay and suggest suspicious "shill" bidding but they wont do anything about it.

At the end of the day you bid what you are prepared to pay, whether someone else genuine or not drives you up to your top price is a gamble.

If something smells funny it usually is. Walk away and bid on something else or watch for the item to be relisted when their best mate has won it!

I thought the same, but I do not bid on lots and my own history would not be much different. It is unfortunate that location and bidder profiles are not public.

I have been waiting for something like this for donks, but if it is relisted after 'an associate' wins does that come under ebay dodginess rules too?

is the best advice you can get, time after time I see people on ebay get carried away bidding and pay more for something secondhand than they would if they bought a new one usually on ebay with free delivery!

Depending on the type of auction a single bid of any amount can remove any BIN price, so you're left with just a straight auction.

The surest sign that someone is taking the p*** is if you drop out and someone else wins...then you get a message twenty minutes later saying the winner was a waste of space and would you like it. I run a mile at that point.

i bid on summat and lost to higher bidder . then got email i could have it at my lower bid price as higher bid fell through i emailed back and said id buy it 20 quid cheaper than i HAD allready bid as thats what the 3d bidder dropped out at err no reply. sometimes i cut me nose off to spite my face

Sometime the seller joins in the bidding too...it goes up and up and sometimes he wins it himself, then he sends you a message saying the winner has backed out and do you want it for your highest bid, which is considerably more than you would have bid if you hadn't been bidding against the seller in the first place. Not at all fair, but it does happen, sadly.

I am still waiting. It went for £751, which is what I would have set it for, and why I am severely pi$$ed I missed the BIN at £450.

It was a completely new bidder so probably lgitimate,. Well done that man, a bit rich for me....or Dearly Beloved who did not know.

If ebay was serious about preventing shill bidding they would STOP private listings, so we could all see a pattern.

Ebay in truth love shill bidding and have done everything in their power to cover it up over the last couple of years.

I usually refuse to bid when the bidders are kept 'private', but the new system doesn't tell you much about them other than what %age of their recent bidding history has been with the current seller. That alone could be enough to expose a shill, but not always if the seller has several accounts.

Hey all, Shill bidding puts more money in Ebays pocket in fees and what have you so it's not surprising they appear un-motivated to police it. Its an odd looking bike anyway... Im sure the pedals are in the wrong place ...
