Dry lining ceiling advice 45d joint.

Pretty much as above, I'm dry lining over existing ceiling in down stairs Hall, when I get to the bottom of the staiirs it extends over the bottom of the stairs and I have Aprx 3ft flat same as Hall but then 3ft runs up the stairs at Aprx 45d, what's the best way to do the joint between flat and 45, will tape be OK if I fill the joint with adhesive then use jointing filler, would the mesh be stronger although I would have to build up higher and feather off further to stop the squares on the tape mesh showing through.

Or should I be looking at cutting into board making a recess and fixing in some stainless or galvanised mesh?

Obviously I'm not a professional at this or I wouldn't be asking, I'm fine with tape joints and skimming if req but I would sooner not have to skim the entire Hall ceiling.

Its a troublesome joint, a stop bead fitted flush with the existing ceiling and a good flexible caulk is my usual approach

Caulk? If needs to be flat smooth and painted, didn't think caulk would blend and sand with jointing plaster

it wont if the existing ceiling has been up for a few years it wont crack just use a bit of unibond pva when its tacky plaster or fill it

I'm cutting out the bit that goes up the stairs as my head clears it by mm's so it needs to stay same height.

just make the joint up using a trowel and stright edge as the plaster sets its pretty simple (ive done alot of plastering) to make the edge using traditional wet plaster techniques

Blend it it with a coat of bonding

Use the metal reinforced paper tape, then feather in

You can also get single edges skimming beads. For awkward places like that.

You wouldnt normally cove up the stair slop of the ceiling. Miter the stop ends on each level.

Thanks for the ideas, ordered a roll of plastering mesh, will mitre boards, recess mesh and use board adhesive, then jointing plaster feathered and sanded.

Thanks again for advice.

Sorted, used 1mm sticky repair mesh, mitred the boards set it in mud and a final skim.
