I have been asked to make some oil dum BBQs.
I have the drums - brand new and unpainted - they look very nice.
I have spied some 1/2" by 3" 12g (2.5mm) 304 mesh which I hope will do nicely for the cooking grill.
Just looking at normal mild steel expanded metal for the tray the coals will sit on - I'm a bit baffled as I have never bought this stuff before.
What thickness should I be using - I have seen 1mm strand thickness (seems a bit thin) 1.6mm and 3mm (getting a bit expensive)? I'm assuming the 'raised' type will be stiffer than the flat.
I am quite happy to weld some stiffeners to the bottom of it if needs be.
