DRO on Fritz Werner Vertical

Having looked up posts and comments on here I've messaged Colin of cbr electronics about his 3 scale mill kit. Provided the x axis is long enough I hope to shortly have myself a dro to help with my mini gearbox conversion.
One issue is that I have 3 mills, and am not too keen to buy one for each one...

I had 2 kits from Colin at CBR electronics, no issues and he's really helpful. I had the graphical version for the mill, which helps do patterns manually.

Had a reply from CBR, it seems that the 12mm behind the table is a tad tight - anyone got any info on a super slim scale?

Stick on magnetic tape and a small encoder head?

Yes, it seems the stick on tape should work, just needs a deflector to keep swarf off it.
All ordered tonight. I know what will come next - I'll want the same setup on the horizontal mill, and you think just the scales and pickups are cheap, but they aren't...
