I thought I would try one of these Bosch multi construction drill bits from “Tool station”. They are described in the catalogue as: “High performance drill bits with multiple diamond ground carbide tips. Suitable for masonry, wood, aluminium, structural steel, plastic, concrete B35, and multi layer material such as tile on concrete.
I am assuming that construction steel refers to RSJ type material, but I don’t know what the difference is between RSJ steel and ordinary mild steel? (no idea what B35 is either.)
I bought a 10mm bit (x 120mm long) and it looks very much like a masonry bit. Price for the 10mm size is £3.49. I drilled a small pilot hole followed by a 7mm hole then finished off with the 10mm multi construction bit. It was very noisy indeed-like trying to drill steel with a missionary bit. But it did the job as promised. I went on to drill a dozen holes through 5mm thick steel, and 4 holes through 10mm thick steel-all were ok.
Has anyone else tried these bits?
