Drill type??

Afternoon.
I’ve had a arbor with interchangeable heads (drill bits) for about twenty years, it has a adjustable sprung centre to fire the plugs away.
ive alway thought of it as a purling drill but it’s great for sheet metal and vehicle body work.
anyway i leant it to a friend and they have lost it ( cant )
bit of a long shot, can anyone tell me what the name of the thing is from a picture of one OIF the drill heads???
this screw onto the end of the arbor..

It's an annular cutter, one of the little sets for sheet metal use.

It's likely rotabroach or similar will sell the Arbor separately

Used to use them for popping holes in aircraft cabin composite floorboards to take aluminium inserts, the kits all had blunt 7/16 cutters and the other sizes were all brand new.

Would you have any idea if you could use in a hand drill?

Would be very handy if so but impossible to hold still without a centre drill first?

Whats the advantage over a holesaw then just a lot more robust?

a geared windy round hand drill that my old man used to have or a battery drill?
I suppose it would be possible with the old man’s drill but I wouldn’t want to use it.

The mini sets are designed for hand drill use, You drill a pilot hole first, and the Arbor has a pilot on it, it was 1/8" on the sets I used.

There designed to work off a centre dot that’s why the centre is spring loaded to get rid of the slug.
if you managed to go about it your method you would send ten minutes trying to get the slug out of the drill head…

Blind pilot hole (deep centre pop?).

I wouldn't be using them on a centre pop alone, maybe that's just me, if the material isn't thick enough for a pilot hole then the slug won't get stuck, IME.

My Rotabroach set came from work and included a pilot drill with one arbor for standard cutting and a sprung loaded pointed pin for going into a centre pop mark along with a full set of cutters.
According to the instructions with mine it can be used in any fixed drill, or with a hand drill, personally I use mine with a cordless drill on sheet bodywork and mainly on centre popped marks and find the best way of using them is to begin cutting, stop once it has marked the cut in the steel and lubricate and continue cutting. My set is over 30 years old and still cut like new.

Mine is getting on for thirty years old and still a cracking bit of kit..
said friend that has put the arbor and cutter in a ”safe place” and can’t find it has just ordered a new arbor and 20cutter at the cost of eighty knickers………
