Drill powered chimney brush?

Does anyone have any experience of these or similar - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Chimney-Typhoon-Power-Sweeping-Metre/dp/B078XC6Q13/ ??

I am happy using a normal brush set but its a faff and I never feel cleans the cowl properly. Something like the attached will be quicker to get into the chimney and expand where the cowl widens at the top of the pot. It will also enable me to quickly do the Rayburn when it is on with a very low fire and windows open which will save a lot of time in not having to let it go out before I can brush.

Have exactly the same one as in the link. More flexible than the drain rod set and easily gets round the two bends in my wood burner flue. Have used it this year with a battery drill and it seemed to do a good job with a fair amount of soot removed.
Would be a little wary of using it on the Rayburn when lit as I think the rods are nylon, possibly the downfall of soot may revive the low fire.

It wont be too bad on the Rayburn as the soot will all fall on top of the oven with the way the flue gases run so nothing can really get back into the firebox. Basically with a very low fire it should be fine if the room is ventilated and if I can be quick it wont be a problem. Rigid brushes need better access and take me a lot longer so can still do that as a summer sweep if needed but this will allow me to have a quick check of everything part way through winter without waiting for over 24h for it to go out completely.

Out of interest, does the whole rod turn or something inside it?

The only bonus I see to that set up Is the rods are pinned together. They shouldn’t come undone whilst up the chimney.

I have been using it this year and last. Really cant say i notice it do much and they still need sweeping. I will use up what I have but doubt I will buy more.

The whole rod turns and they have a spring loaded bayonet type connection. Can sometimes be a little fiddly to push the spring loaded plunger back in to release them when dirty using only fingers, nail or small screwdriver helps. After use give them a good clean and spray the end with something like WD40 before putting them away.

I have the same set. Only problem I have is getting the bush past the 45* bend as it enters the stack. After that works a treat

I swept our Rayburn chimney while it was alight once, the nice stiff plastic brush went up ok but came down looking like a wet mop!

I have ordered a set as in the link. Went for 10m to make sure i had enough! I think they will make doing the log burner easy too as to do it with the rigid brushes and poles, i have to remove it and disconnect the flue. These look like they should pass up from inside the burner.

You could try the French way - climb onto the roof, drop a brush on the end of a chain down the chimney and pull it back up . Oh, and to do that here you need a diploma in chimney sweeping.

I struggle with our log burner with the stiff set of rods, I’m tempted by these if it makes the job easier

Just make sure the connection is positive between the rods.

I bought a set a couple of years ago.

My log burner has approx 600mm of flue pipe going through a register plate and into a concrete collector.
Liner comes down to the collector, but not connected to the short section of flue pipe.

I used them, great, nice and clean but whilst puking them.back out, one caught on the top of the flue pipe section and must have depressed the button. When I gave it a good tug down, I was left with a 3 or 4 rods stuck up the chimney and one in my hand.
Log burner out, register plate out.....
Threw them down the side of the shed in disgust. Now slowly getting cut up when I need a bit of plastic round bar for a job..

Could you have wrapped tape over the button after you assembled them ?

Tbh, I think it was pretty unlucky, coupled with a good yank.

Got a set of Bailey ones now, a bit harder work, but peace of mind they won't come apart half way down again.
