Drill chuck removal wedges

Any suggestions where to get these, I've not been able to find any (RDG, Chronos, zoro, none even listed), Amazon non in stock, I can't think of anywhere else.

Ok chaps what’s your top tips for removing the arbour from Jacobs chucks, I’ve got a No.36 Chuck with a MT3 arbour that is a bit bashed up. I would like to replace this with a MT4 arbour, there isn’t much shoulder to use wedges so looking for a alternative:

This thread ended up with brute force being used, not what I want to do.

I've got a jacobs keyless on an R8 arbour and was looking at a Rohm that also needs the arbour changing.

Looks like I'll be using my keyed chuck on the lathe for a while.

Probably end up getting a new chuck and arbour.

Did you read the whole thread? The wedges are available from MSC in UK. Part numbers noted in that thread.

Any arbor that has an internally-threaded end (and your R8 arbor fits that description), you do not need wedges at all. Put a suitable piece of tube over the arbor and use the drawbar to press it off.

Drawing attached if you want to make your own.

If anyone happens to have a wedge or know the dimensions for a zero Jacobs taper, please advise and I will add to the drawing.

I believe the MSC page says 'non catalogue item' and 'call for delivery' rather than 'out of stock'. Given that their part number is almost identical to the Jacobs part number, that is likely to be the source for them, so they would bring them from US if you wanted to order.

Too much stress in the wrong place, wedges are used to spread the load.

It's a nice smooth action on the Jacobs, so I'll keep for the Bridgeport.
