Drill Bits

hey, hey!

Just looking for a little advice on your recommendation of drill bit? Now the workshop is all setup and running, all big tools are in and benches nearly finished. I'd like to look at getting some decent drills. Never really had to drill at my old job as a lot was cnc'ed or lasered. I was just the welder

Been looking but they all seem a little playschool Don't mind either hss or cobalt, I want to invest in a decent set that I can sharpen on my new sharpening tool

Drilling mild steel up to 10mm. Last as long as possible. Not the crappy screwfix and b&q specials. So..... Any idea on Brands?

Dormer is a brand that's been going for some time and has a good reputation. An engineer's merchant should stock good stuff if you have one locally, pop in and have a look?

guhrung is another good name. some guhrung bits i got about 20 years ago via the company i worked for (i was only a lad) and i still have a fair few of them. they've not had industrial use by any standards but pretty regular use on lots of fabrication jobs and projects and various personal car projects. these days when i buy bits i only buy screwfix (or other cheap sh*te) bits and they usually get chucked in the will-sharpen-one-day-when-i-can-be-bothered box but if you are happy to sharpen and take care not to snap them then expensive bits will last the average person a lifetime of diy and probably pay for themselves many times over compared to the cheap ones.

a good idea would be to pick up old bits at a boot sale for next to nothing and sharpen them up. you'll probably find that anything over 20 years old is decent enough quality.
