Drill Bits

I bought some wonderful drills with gold coloured points when I was living/working in Germany in the early2000's. Now the most used ones have succumbed to my abuse and I want some drills as good.
These drills would drill a hole for an extractor in a hardened steel capscrew.
Any recommendations.?
I have looked at Screwfix and only see "ordinary" drills.

those OK then Paul?.... never know with "own brand" stuff. (not that I'm looking, got a set of alpen cobalts a while ago & they are quite nice)

The gold-tipped ones are TiN tipped I think.

Do you rate Erbaur then.?
I'm always wary of "Branded" stuff eg DeWalt etc probably made in China from chicken droppings.

Have you checked out "frhei" drills, I bought a couple of sets at a Harrogate show after seeing a demo, they look a bit like a masonary drill bit but will even drill thro' a file, been over the moon with mine, even keep drilling away when glowing dull red.Believe they are only mail order from down south somewhere but came with a lifetime warranty.The guy was drilling steel, brick,concrete wood etc without any trouble,

Ive been in engineering for 30 years and all the gold drills we used were titanium coated ,, we did use some cobalt with titaniun coating very good BUT EXPENSIVE~??

I had a set of those some years ago, part of the demo was to drill through a large twist drill, and as you say a file, Good tools but not for precision holes.
I believe they came from cornwall, you paid the demonstrator and they came by post a few days later.

Howard, I bought the screwfix cobalt set 2 or 3 years ago they seem as good as any others I have, bit brittle but thats the nature of them.

Very correct paul, certainly not precision but when you need a hole in something tough these are the dogs what sits,

OK guys,
I bought the Erbaur drills from screwfix, almost 70 squids.
They did drill down the middle of 2 hardened steel capscrews no problem.
The edges feel good afterwards, so fingers crossed they will last.
Aren't extractor studs wonderful.?
