im in the market for a drill and impact driver set, budget around 450, thinking Makita but theres so many varying models its getting confusing! Often driving tek screws all day, so good battery life and recharge time, if I could drill a dozen ten mm holes in block would do for most gate fitting, any advice?

I have the new LXT brushless Makita stuff, I was a bit weary as its quite light compared to my old dewalt stuff but it's really good
Used at work as well so not diy, I have some 3ah and one 4ah 18v batteries and they also get used with a circular, grinder, sds and a recip, seem to get good life

With that budget I think you may be into Milwaukee - in which case there seems to be nothing which can better them. 5 year warranty on almost all tools now I think, though you must register them online after purchasing.

yes Milwaukee are very good
if you want to save a few quid, I've got a load of Ryobi stuff - bought it because I won a bunch of batteries on ebay cheap... really impressed with it all tho... not up to Milwaukee standard... or quite up to Makita... but it's all a fraction of the price
iirc my Ryobi impact driver was £14 on ebay, from Ryobi factory recon people (got other tools like that too)
Milwaukee impact driver is awesome for big/heavy/tight stuff but way too big/powerful for anything smaller... which is there the Tyobi is perfect.. does things up tight/fast but not too tight... and you don;t have to worry about snapping bolts etc.. (Milwaukee snapes things for fun... including splitting good branded impact sockets!)
I put some rawl bolts into concrete floor just today, to hole some pallet racking in place... picked up the Milwaukee first because it was right next to me... but had to go swap the the Ryobi... Milwaukee kept spinning the bolts in the holes :-o
(holes were tight too)

is it an older one ? new ones have 2 power settings, but it's an electrical setting, not a gear

9ah batteries? I'd be thinking more like 3/4 on a drill/driver at the most for heavy use. Save the heavy 9ah ones for demanding tools like grinders, mag drills etc, I don't think Milwaukee recommend them for light tools. Probably triple the weight of a drill/driver...
