Just wondering if anyone can tell me if the Miller Diversion 180 is available in the UK? If so, where and how much?
I can only find it on American sites.
I don't think it'll be a machine that'd make sense for them to do a CE version... it's raison d'être as far as i can work out is to appeal to the Monster Garage/American Hot Rod etc viewer i.e. a Miller that's a bit closer to cheapnese kit price wise
1. In the US it comes with a book titled 'TIG welding for dummies' (part of the reason why i think what i said above)
2. Miller is owned by ITW welding, another ITW brand is Hobart which traditionally are kinda more aimed at the DIY market. Hobart have their own version of the Diversion which is apparently made on the same production line and only differs in colour, branding and price (cheaper)
3. While i'm sure it's as well made and as nice to use as other Miller kit there's several things that don't add up... it must be one of the only TIGs in existance that have a hard wired torch, it's dutycycle is 60A @ 100% / 150A @ 20% (granted those numbers will at least be on the conservative side of honest) and most of the parameters are automatic... while that makes life simple a lot of the time if you can't override things it can a ball ache some of the time.
4. Traditionally by the time stuff gets from the States to the UK (officially) the price conversion typcically involves in replacing the $ sign with £. List price for a Dynasty 200dx is around $4000 and in the UK ssp is around £4000 for example. Real life price for the Diversion would end up being what... around £1500-1700? Doesn't make sense to me, it's not got enough balls to be the only machine you'll ever need and it's too expensive for a 'starter machine'. If you can't justify new premium brand kit and can't feed/don't have room for a big old used beast like a Syncrowave then an Rtech/Tec-Arc etc make more sense
