Hi All,
new to this site and already found tons of good info. I have a Draper 1302T welder bought about 6 years ago as an ex demo machine. It had never been used. It took awhile to learn how to set it up but one thing that did make a big differance was changing to the 5kg reel. Despite the heavier mass, it feed easier due to being less a larger diameter. There was less drag in the torch lead as the weld wire was straighter.
Good points on this welder: Able to fit 5kg reel within machine. Decent wire feed mechanism but alittle sesitive to wire speed setting. Small enough to lift into the machines I need to weld. Can weld upto 4mm with edge prep. Decent duty cycle for diy machine thanks to the big cooling fan.
Bad points: Plastic reel mount, broke after being banged around replaced with an alluminium one. Crappy wheels and carry handle.
I use 0.8mm steel wire with CO2 from part used fire extinguishers.
I have a couple of questions you may be able to help with.
How can I stop the regulator (guage type) freezing up dispite using at about 5 - 10 l/m?
How do I change the liner in the standard torch? I have read somwhere on here about using a curtain wire instead of the original plastic one, is it possible?
Thanks for a great site.
